If Barack Wins, Beck Spins! Yay! Show's On! (Please Read 'Comments' for Volunteering Tips)

Hola from Barcelona! Bubblegum & Other Delights will (hopefully) return live on Friday, Nov. 7, in its 7-9 time slot. Come celebrate the return of Becky and her new records, a la the fab Spanish version of  "Sugar "Sugar" and the coveted Marc soundtrack (from Marc Bolan´s kids´s TV series).

The mini theme of this show will be volunteerism, and how we can spend as little as one hour per week making this country a better place--and how to find the right organization for you. I´ve seen many passionate people get turned off from volunteering due to bad organizations, lack of energy on the organizers´part, too much red tape, etc. Note: I pasted my volunteering tips into a reply below so we can have more rock/less talk tonite! My Hero!

This is the opening to The Lloyd Thaxton Show and a segment
where he lip-sync's to Georgie Fame's song "Get Away." Click image
to watch. Lloyd passed away last Sunday. Luxuria loves you, Lloyd!

The Gong Show

VISUALIZE JAYE P. MORGAN HERE. Thanks, everyone, who stopped by to listen during my Sid & Marty Krofft Show. Everyone seemed to enjoy the Kaptain Kool & the Kongs Gong Show segment and so did I. How it worked: I played the CD in its entirety. If three people in the chatroom typed "GONG!" the song was cut off and we went to the next one, no questions asked. Considering this was a Kaptain Kool LP, I think it was nothing short of a miracle that we made it through something like 38.7% of the tunes. That group sucks! Anyway, I will be keeping The Gong Show as a semi-regular segment on Bubblegum & Other Delights (every Friday at 7). My hope is that we can get on Stickam and use pots and pans as visual gongs.

Sid & Marty Party!

This Friday's Bubblegum & Other Delights will be a Krofft Supershow of sorts as I celebrate the wacky duo that warped '70s Saturday mornings for me and children everywhere. I'll be playing songs from Sid & Marty soundtracks such as Pufnstuf and The Bugaloos, as well as theme songs for their other psychedelic shows. Got a request or three? Help me, Jimmy, help me! Just hit the Comments button and type them in by Thursday afternoon and I'll try to track them down. PS: The magic (mongo) happens at 7 p.m. on Friday. Becky

VPILFs, Veronica and Vocabulary

It has often been said (OK, never) that politics and bubblegum make strange bedfellows, but junk news junkies who are fans of the musical genre hit the trifecta this week. First, there were those Brady Bunch and Jonas Brothers name droppings in relation to the National Democratic Convention, and today John McCain announced Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his VP running mate. BG&OD listeners might remember Sarah from her work as a sexy steno in show fave Adam Ant's "Goody Two Shoes" video from the early '80s.

The Dudsome Brothers

MTV--His opponent may be trying to brand him as a celebrity, but Barack Obama isn't the biggest star in his own daughters' eyes. When Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Denver on Monday night after their mom Michelle's speech, they had no idea their dad was going to be beamed in live via satellite. When Mrs. Obama told the girls she had a surprise for them, the potential first lady was pretty surprised at the response. "Is it the Jonas Brothers?!" Malia asked.

EL Vez Has Entered the Building!

Be sure to tune in at 2 p.m. (PST) sharp today, Sunday, Aug. 24, to Pretty World with Switched On Audrey and her special guest El Vez! He has just confirmed, so be in the chatroom. Who knows? Maybe he'll even buy you a pink low-rider Cadillac!

These Boots Were Made for Rockin'

Join special guests Michael Quercio and Ms. Paisley Underground on tonight's Bubblegum & Other Delights show. Be there around 7 p.m. PST! You can view the Three O'Clock's "I Go Wild" video and see Michael's Beatle boots in action here.

The Hippy Hipster Shake

The new Bollywood-inspired Devendra Banhart video starring his gf Natalie Portman.  Litlgrey, have at it!

Where is That Confounded Bid?

Mike and Michelle sell records at our Pasadena swap meet. They just launched a huge eBay sale for soul, funk, R&B,  jazz, etc. 45s, so I figured I'd share a fave local find with the Lux crowd. I counted more than 600 discs, and sound clips are included so there's no risk in buying a cruddy-sounding dud. (Note: Apparently you have to click on this blog entry to access the HTML auction link.)
